Welcome to Salle New Bern's website
The modern sport of fencing has a long and storied tradition dating back to eighteenth-century European dueling and cavalry fighting. Fencing is one of only four sports to be featured in every modern Olympic Games, and it is one of five sports that make up the modern Pentathlon. Fencing has been called "a game of chess of the toes" – a challenging mix of physical and tactical training that is equally suitable for men and women, boys and girls of all ages.
The Club meets at West New Bern Recreation Center on Monday and Wednesday nights between 7.30pm-9.00pm. We start each session with a warm up, followed by a group session. Then the rest of the time is spent by a mixture of individual lessons from our coaches and bouts in all three weapons.
The club is a friendly place to meet, with a wide range of fencing abilities. Some members are happy to fence once a week, some are keen enough to fence several nights and with multiple clubs. The club actively encourages its members to take part in competitions on both the local and national levels.
The club offers beginners courses throughout the year; we provide all the equipment you need to get started.
Fees
The cost per year is $50.00. Fees should be paid to the Coach and made payable to the Salle New Bern. If you are interested in participating in a beginners course, please read the information in the beginners section of this site.
